100 Years of Service: The Lasting Legacy of Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department

This year, the Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department (FCVFD) proudly celebrates a remarkable milestone: 100 years of service to our community. Since 1925, the department has been a steadfast pillar of safety and support, continually adapting to meet the evolving needs of Falls Church and its residents. This centennial achievement reflects not only the department’s resilience but also the incredible community that has stood by us every step of the way.

Humble Beginnings in 1925

The FCVFD was officially incorporated on February 27, 1925, following a reorganization that redefined its mission and operations. The first firehouse was constructed near the current location on Lee Highway, providing a central hub for the activities and operations. With limited resources but an abundance of determination, the department acquired its first fire truck, laying the foundation for what would become an essential lifeline for the citizens of Falls Church.

The Heart of our Department

Throughout its history, the FCVFD has embraced new challenges to continuously improve its  service to the Falls Church residents. In recent years, we’ve expanded our focus to include Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Our operational volunteers, now certified as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services, respond to emergency calls and provide standby support at special events. This expansion has been vital in ensuring comprehensive emergency response and public safety education for the residents of Falls Church and surrounding areas.

This progress would not be possible without our exceptional volunteer team. From our operational members to administrative staff, we are immensely grateful for their contributions and ongoing support of our community. For 100 years, countless volunteers have answered the call, sacrificing their time and energy to serve and protect Falls Church. FCVFD is proud to have stood alongside them.
