When someone in Falls Church dials 911, it’s our volunteers who answer–day or night, in every kind of weather, and in moments that often change lives forever.
For 100 years, the Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department has been there–responding to medical emergencies, teaching safety in schools, participating in parades, and supporting our neighbors through some of their hardest and most joyful moments. We’ve done it not for a paycheck, but out of a deep-rooted commitment to serve.
As a 100% volunteer-staffed EMS department, we are proud to be the first line of care for our community during their most urgent moments. But our work extends far beyond the flashing lights and emergency calls–and none of it would be possible without the generosity of people like you.
More Than Emergency Response
FCVFD volunteers dedicate thousands of hours each year to provide emergency medical services to residents of Falls Church and the surrounding Arlington and Fairfax counties. But thanks to donations from community members like you, we’re able to do so much more than answer 911 calls.
Your support helps fund the outreach, education, and prevention efforts that build a safer, more connected Falls Church. That includes:
- Fire & Life Safety Education: We host scout troops, school groups, and other organizations at Station 6 to teach life-saving skills–like when to call 911, what to do in an emergency, and how to stay safe around fire and medical hazards. Learn more about our Fire & Life Safety Presentations.
- Community Events in Falls Church: From riding in the annual Memorial Day and holiday parades, to running safety education stations at local events, our members are out in the community year-round sharing resources, answering questions, and building relationships.
- Public Awareness Campaigns: Through social media, outreach materials, and word-of-mouth, we educate the public on emergency preparedness and how to become a volunteer EMT responder. Explore volunteer opportunities.
The Lifeline Behind the Scenes: What Your Gift Supports
Your donations fund the behind-the-scenes essentials that keep our service running–often in ways most people never see, but that both our station and patients rely on.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, FCVFD depends on donations to cover most of our daily operating costs. While the City supports some shared expenses, your generosity funds the essentials that keep us ready to serve.
When you give, you’re directly supporting:
- Protective gear and uniforms – Ensuring every volunteer EMT has the equipment they need to serve safely.
- Advanced training and certifications – So our volunteers are prepared for everything from car accidents to cardiac arrests.
- Ambulance maintenance and fuel – So we can respond to calls safely and without delay.
Help Us Keep Showing Up for Falls Church and Beyond
We may not be a full-time department, but we provide full-time commitment–through every season, in every kind of weather, and on every type of call. That consistency is only possible because of generous donors like you.
Your donation helps us stay ready and reliable–from fueling ambulances on freezing nights to equipping volunteers for the sweltering heat of summer calls. Whether we’re teaching fire safety to preschoolers or responding to a critical emergency at 2 a.m., your gift makes sure we can keep showing up.
